The Revenant: Interviews from the European Premiere

The Revenant is the story of a frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820's who fights for survival after being mauled by a bear and is left for dead by members of his own hunting team.

We attended the red carpet for The Revenant in Leicester Square, London at it's European Premiere and had the opportunity to ask Domnhall Gleeson (Actor) and Paul Anderson (Actor) some questions about the movie.

The Revenant arrives in UK cinemas 15th January 2016.

Domnhall Gleeson - Actor (as Captain Andrew Henry)
This was a really challenging shoot, how did you prepare for this role?
We did a boot camp and we thought that would prepare us, but actually the weather wasn’t so bad in the boot camps, so we really did nothing. Making sure you put on your thermals was the best preparation you could do, apart from that it was just to keep your feet moving and try to keep as dry as you possibly can. That was about it.

Paul Anderson - Actor (as Anderson)
What were some of the challenges of working on this film with the tough shoot that you guys had?
Every part of it was a challenge to be honest, it really was. We weren’t shooting in a studio, we didn’t have all those things around us that studios have, they have clean toilets, lovely warm rooms you can sit in and keep yourself warm and dry. We never had any of that, we were literally in the mountain. It was stripped bare, all we had was each other.

Was it worth it?
Yeah, very much so. I haven’t seen the film, it's the first time I’m going to see it tonight. I haven’t had a chance to see it, I’ve been very busy so I haven’t managed to see it, but I am sure it was worth it. Everything I have heard has been good.

What attracted you to this role? Was it Alejandro and his writing or…?
Yeah, I mean it was Alejandro (Director), it was working with these guys, Leo up there (on stage) and Tom, who I had already worked with, Domnhall and Will and meeting all the rest of the bunch. There was eight guys, a good strong bunch of friends.
